Big walk kit
I’m amazed how excited I’ve become by the detail of kit planning. Deciding what to take, and what to leave out, has become something that occupies my mind, and has led to a number of interesting discussions with others about what would be their luxury, given that weight is at a premium. I'm aiming to keep the pack weight at around 12 kg, which I'm advised is the maximum I should aim to carry for such a long time, based on my body weight. Given that water is heavy, that doesn't leave much room for extras. At the moment I have nothing to wear other than walking clothes, but I'm hoping that anyone who makes the effort to come to see me mid-journey would see it as a personal benefit to them for me to wear clean clothes, and therefore they might bring some with them. Whilst I'm on my own, I'm not bothered. I'm pretty low maintenance.
I've really appreciated the lists that others have put up of what they're taking, and how much. I appreciate that this is a niche interest, but for anyone who's considering doing this sort of journey, here's my list for the Big Walk, in case it's helpful. Coast to Coast packing is a bit more relaxed, as I'm using a luggage transportation company.
